Guided Experiences in Movement & Meditation (GEMM)

GEMM is a mindful and intentional movement practice designed for self-awareness and reflection through a bodymind connection that incorporates elements from diverse disciplines such as Silat, Qigong, Contemporary Dance, Butoh, Somatic Movement Practices, and occasionally the donning of healing masks. The practice is informed by nature to engage the body, mind, and spirit in order to transform stress and suffering.

We see the moving body as a map of contemplation, creative individuality and artistic liberation, the edges of which are expansive and have yet to be discovered. GEMM is curated for participants of any level of experience and background.

Our sessions, regardless of if in festivals, public centres, schools, or private studios, are taught in groups. We believe that through working in communion with others, it encourages empathy and connection, and in understanding others we deepen the understanding of ourselves.

  • People lying on the floor during a yoga or meditation class in a spacious studio with large windows, a coach teaching, and reflective glass walls.
  • Two women in traditional clothing standing beside mannequins dressed in colorful batik outfits display in a dark room.
  • A young woman with brown hair tied in a ponytail with a yellow scrunchie, wearing a black T-shirt that says 'George Town' in yellow text, is practicing a martial arts move with her eyes closed and her hands in a defensive pose.
  • A man with a shaved head wearing an orange shirt looking at a red mask in a display area with mannequins and clothing in the background.
  • A man lying on a woven mat outdoors, wearing a green mask and a sleeveless beige shirt.

We offer meditation sessions for groups that would like to experience the benefits of the work but prefer a gentler entry-point with less dynamic movement.

  • Relieve tensions through breathwork and guided imagery

  • Begin acknowledging your current mood and the state of your nervous system.

  • Placing conscious thought and focus into the breath to strengthen the mind and body connection

  • Release emotional and energetic blockages to reach the true potential within.

Join us as we rest our minds from the onslaught of urban life, and connect with others.
